This past saturday was the finals of the Philly Cup to benefit a group that helps build skate parks around Philadelphia. Below are a few pictures and a short flick highlighting the competition.
Arrested Development Playing Tennessee Live at the Blockley
The year was 1992 and I was deep in High School. One of my favorite albums was Arrested Development’s album 3 Years, 5 Months And 2 Days in the life of…
Their music was so easy to digest and enjoy – it was upbeat and gave us something to really start parties off on the right foot. Now 20 years latter Arrested Development is out touring in celebration of this monumentous 90′s album. Peep them doing “Tennnessee” at the Blockley – this version includes Speech offering the true background of the song which was quite misunderstood by the masses.
Vacationer Live at Underground Arts 9.28.12
Philadelphia’s Vacationer owns the summer with their lofty feel-good vocals and laid-back vibe and beats. They played their second Philadelphia show at the cities newest or at least redone music venue Underground Arts. The show caught fire around the time they performed “Trip” and what I believe to be a remixed version of “Jesus” by DOM that really made the 200 or so move. It should also be noted that this venue is spectacular! Set in a warehouse style basement, it’s got character galore, great sound, solid lights, low stage, choice beer and one heck of a recording studio in the back. Peep Vacationer doing “Good As New” and “Trip” live and get a feel for the new Underground Arts venue.
alt-J – Live in Philadelphia – 9.14.12 – Video
alt-J – the four man Indie group from the UK is fast blowing up in the states. With a song on the last season of Weeds and a new album entitled An Awesome Wave just released, alt-J landed at Johnny Brenda’s for a sold out show. This band is even Favorited to win the 2012 Murcury Prize. I suspect that will be the last time seeing them in a small club. Peep them as their front man Joe Newman craftily winds us through some of the most interesting and easiest vocals to the ears on their song “Tessellate”
